Why I Need to Avoid Sun After Microblading

avoid sun after microblading

When you decide to go ahead with booking your microblading appointment, it is extremely important that you follow the recommend pre and post care to ensure optimal results.  One very important aftercare step is to avoid direct sunlight on the brow area. After microblading, the treated area undergoes a healing process that takes several weeks. During this time, it is generally recommended to avoid direct sun exposure, especially prolonged exposure and sunbathing. Here’s why:

natural looking microblading surreyProtecting the pigment: The sun emits ultraviolet (UV) radiation, which can be harmful to the freshly microbladed area. UV radiation can cause the pigment to fade or change in color, leading to a less desirable outcome. It may also cause the pigmented area to heal unevenly or develop patches of pigmentation loss.

Minimizing inflammation and irritation: Sun exposure can lead to increased inflammation and irritation in the treated area. The skin is more vulnerable after microblading, and exposure to the sun’s rays can exacerbate these issues. This can result in discomfort, redness, and delayed healing.

Preventing hyperpigmentation: Microblading involves creating small incisions in the skin and depositing pigment. Sun exposure can trigger the production of melanin, the pigment responsible for skin color. In some cases, excessive melanin production can lead to hyperpigmentation, causing the area to darken more than desired.

Reducing the risk of scarring: Microblading aims to create natural-looking eyebrows by implanting pigment in shallow layers of the skin. Exposing the treated area to the sun can increase the risk of scarring, as UV radiation can interfere with the skin’s healing process. Scarring may alter the appearance of the microbladed brows and compromise the desired outcome.

To protect the freshly microbladed area, it is important to follow aftercare instructions provided by your technician. These instructions may include avoiding sun exposure, using sunscreen on the treated area once it has fully healed, and wearing a hat or protective clothing when outdoors.

It is generally recommended to stay out of the sun for at least two weeks after microblading, or until the area has fully healed. By doing so, you can help ensure optimal results and maintain the longevity of your microbladed eyebrows.
